The left turn from The Lazy Fish takes you 700m to the Bluff township – home of the annual Bluff Oyster Festival, 25 May, 2013 and including Fish and Chips shop, RSA, Four Square Supermarket, Post Office, Lotto Shop, Library, Tavern and Restaurants, working port and harbour,Stewart Island Ferry Terminal and historic Te Rau Aroha Marae. Garage and petrol station, antiques and collectibles, new and re-cycled clothing, hair and beauty salon, Prescription Collection Depot, hotels and bottle stores, local arts and crafts galleries and cafes, the Swimming Pool (seasonal), ATMs and internet access, and a Police Station.
A further 3.5 km to the Heliport and continuing a further 23.6km to the turnoff on the right to the Catlins part of the Southern Scenic Route.
From The Lazy Fish turn right onto Marine Parade for 1.5km along the open coastline of superb sea and mountain views to Stirling Point and the iconic AA Signpost. State Highway 1 begins here at Longitude 46.6 South and travels the entire length of New Zealand. Ample viewpoints, parking, restaurants, cafe, souvenirs, restaurants and wine bar, scenic walkways and photo opportunities.
